| 46th Annual Recognition Dinner May 13th |

On May 13, 2010 at the Aqua Turf Club the CHSCA will hold their 46th Coaches Recognition Dinner.
The United States Marines, represented by Major Lee M. Rush and Captain Jason Maloney, will receive the Joseph Calvanese Sponsorship Award.
Jack Freeman, Director of Stadium Operations at Rentschler Field, will be recognized with the Joseph J. Fontana Distinguished Service Award.
Don Pisati of the Metropolitan Learning Center is the recipient of the Thomas J. Monahan CHSCA Honor Award.
Mike Savage, the Executive Director of the CIAC who is retiring this June, will also be recognized for his many years of service to our student athletes and coaches in Connecticut. Mike has done a tremendous amount of work to improve the conditions under which coaches operate in this state. Best wishes Mike on your retirement from your friends at the CHSCA.

Congratulations to John Fontana on this recognition from the Connecticut Association of Athletic Directors at their 26th Annual Awards Banquet held on March 25th at the Rocky Hill Marriott. This award recognizes John Fontana’s work as the Executive Director of the CHSCA and his concerted efforts to improve interscholastic athletics in Connecticut. As stated in the CAAD Awards night program, “a review of his resume reveals a far reaching influence he has had on high school athletics as a teacher, coach, guidance counselor and leader of the Connecticut High School Coaches Association.” The CHSCA would like to thank the CAAD Executive Board and their director Fred Balsamo for their hospitality and generosity during the banquet.

| The Connecticut Coaching Education Program Offers New CEU Modules |

Members: Please note this important update concerning the Connecticut Coaching Education Program regarding CEU Modules.
The CCEP is offering a brand new 3 hour Module dealing with Concussions and Neck Injuries that will be held at the Windsor Marriott on February 4, 2010 from 5-8pm.
There is a new online CEU Module worth 3 hours. Module 6 titled Revocation, Harassment & Hazing is now available online.

Eight coaches and one media member will be inducted into the Connecticut High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame on Nov. 19, 2009. The inductions will be held at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington starting at 7pm. Tickets for the dinner are available from the CHSCA office at P.O. Box 632, Southington 06487, by calling 860-628-4122 or by e-mailing John Fontana at jfontana01@snet.net.

The CHSCA congratulates Dave Strong of Masuk (Monroe) and Irv Black of New Britain on their induction into the National High School Athletic Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame this past June at the annual national convention in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Irving Black is a coaching legend in cross country and track and field. In addition to his CHSCA COTY in cross country in 1965, Mr. Black was inducted into the CHSCA Hall of Fame in 1995. The National Federation of High Schools placed him into their Hall of Fame in 2006. Coach Black operates the Northeast Timing Services Company and is still a fixture at athletic events in Connecticut.
Dave Strong, Masuk's girls basketball coach, has received multiple honors for his coaching excellence over the years. He received the 1982 CHSCA COTY and was awarded the NHSACA COTY in 2002. He is a member of the CHSCA Hall of Fame as well of the New England Basketball Hall of Fame. Dave is also a Past President of the CHSCA.
Jim Cotter, softball coach at NFA, was awarded the NHSACA Coach of the Year for 2009. Jim was the 2005 CHSCA COTY. Congratulations Jim from the CHSCA for this oustanding recognition.
