2006 Governors' Cup All-Star Football Game June 29, 2006
Tickets for the game are only $8! Come to a great day at Rentschler Field
Since 1999, the Connecticut and Rhode
Island High School Coaches Associations
have organized and conducted an interstate
all-star football game that showcases some
of the finest high school senior athletes in
New England. Each November, top coaches
are nominated and selected by their respective
coaches associations for this prestigious
coaching honor. This year, the Connecticut
All-Star team will be led by Kevin Jones of
Stamford while the Rhode Island team will
be led by Tom Centore of Cranston East.
In January, every high school football
program in Connecticut and Rhode Island is
invited to nominate seniors for all-star game
consideration. Of the hundreds of athletes vying
for tryout spots, approximately 200 players
are invited to test at “combines” held in their
respective states. Ultimately, 50 players are
chosen for each team. Practices are held for
10 days leading up to the big game. For the
third year in a row, the game will take place at
Rentschler Field in East Hartford, home to the
University of Connecticut Huskies, on Thursday
evening, June 29, 2006 at 7:15 PM. In early
spring, the Connecticut All-Star team and
their coaches are recognized by Connecticut
State Legislators at the Capitol in Hartford.
As the Governors’ Cup has begun increasing
profits from the event, they have
been able to make charitable contributions to
the community. CHSCA is pleased to announce
a significant partnership with the
Dave Campo/Darren Woodson National
Foundation which raises money to benefit
Guakia, Boys & girls Clubs of Hartford and the
Lenscrafters Foundation/Give the Gift of Sight
program. Proceeds from the 2006 Governors’
Cup will be donated to this foundation to support
their mission and dedication to these important
community organizations.
The Connecticut and Rhode Island
High School Coaches Associations are
proud to announce a partnership with
the Dave Campo/ Darren Woodson
National Foundation, with Coca-Cola
remaining a major sponsor, for the
2006 Governors’ Cup All-Star Football
Game. The annual interstate game will
showcase 50 of the best Connecticut
seniors battling 50 of the best Rhode
Island seniors on June 29, 2006 at 7
PM at Rentschler Field in East Hartford,
CT. The proceeds from the showcase
will benefit the Dave
Campo/Darren Woodson National
Foundation.
